Our Facility

We take great care to ensure our studio facility uses the riches of natural resources in order to provide a healthy, conscious and inspired space. This may sound confusing, but our green initiatives are actually blue. Blue initiatives refer to the colour we desire from our water and skies.  While we are working to green our planet, greenery only encompasses a small portion of the earth.  What we really want to do is blue our planet.  That’s why we considered the water, the sky, and our children’s children when we did the following:

Cork Studio Floor

We chose cork floors for our studio for many reasons. From an environmental perspective, cork floors do not damage trees. Cork is a natural, sustainable product that is produced from tree bark. From a health perspective, cork is a natural shock absorber (think Birkenstocks!) and contains anti-microbes that prevent bacteria from entering the floor.

Radiant Heating

We use radiant heat panels to warm our hot studio to the desired temperature. Radiant heat allows for a lower room temperature due to concentrated heat.  Radiant panels warm objects (i.e. yoga students) directly rather than the entire studio, reducing energy consumption up to 40%.

Friendly Cleaning Products

The studio is cleaned exclusively with environmentally friendly products, which are hypo-allergenic and contain no perfumes, dyes, formaldehyde preservatives, ammonia or other common allergens. Nature Clean, as well as Citrosolve, are biodegrade-efficient plant-based products.

Natural Mat Disinfectant

We keep our studio rental mats clean with Benefect, a 100% botanical and hospital-grade disinfectant made of plant products, such as thyme oil. How does it work?  Similar to the human production of antibodies, plants produce germ-killing essential oils to protect against invading microbes. Benefect has been proven to kill over 99.99% of bacteria, and it surpasses Health Canada’s efficacy requirements for broad spectrum hospital disinfectants.

VOC-Free Paints

Most paints require the use of petroleum-base solvents, which produce volatile organic compounds (VOCs).  Once in the atmosphere, VOCs react with other chemicals to form ozone, a major pollutant. We use Ecospec primer and Yolo Colourhouse paint, products that have virtually no odour or solvents, and will not result in adverse effects on people or the quality of environment. In addition, we use Cycling Painters, an eco-painting service, to bring beauty to our walls.  Since we focus on breathing deeply at Kula, this choice was a must for optimal health.

Mason Jars

In the event that students forget their water bottles, mason jars are available. Instead of supporting the bottled water industry, which contributes to a vast amount of plastic waste in the Pacific Ocean and harm to humans and wildlife, we provide an alternative that is both cost-effective and enivronmentally friendly.  Jars are yours to keep. We believe you will be amazed by the utility and versatility of a mason jar.

Efficient Washer/Dryer

Our laundry is cleaned with low water consumption and energy-efficient washer and dryers.

Low-Flow Toilets

These toilets save gallons and gallons of water with each flush!
